Experience?
Many volunteers take part in volunteering to gain experience, this helps them gain skills and experience to put on their CV and also give an up-to-date reference.
However you may wish to use your existing skills to help an organisation and this is fine too. Just mention it when speaking to the Volunteer Bureau and they will help you find an opportunity with an organisation who needs your skills.
What are your skills? They can be as diverse as an ability to listen to an ability to govern. The needs of voluntary organisations are as varied as skills available, so let us know what you can do, and let us find somewhere for you to do it.
What next? A B C to it.....
A. Now you have an Awareness of what is involved.
B. Book an appointment with the Volunteer Bureau
C. Choose an opportunity that suits you and let us do the rest!!!!

Training
As a volunteer you can gain a level 2 qualification called the Certificate in Community Volunteering. This is accredited through ASDAN, a national provider. You undertake all the requirements locally, collecting evidence (such as notes and photographs) within your voluntary placement. The course covers communication skills, teamwork, improving your personal skills and passing them on to others.
The award acknowledges the very worthwhile contribution you are making as a volunteer and can be a valuable addition to your CV. Whatever your age or experience the Certificate in Community Volunteering provides a qualification which recognises the work you are doing.
As a volunteer with any organisation you should receive induction training. This should cover:
Health and Safety - Confidentiality - A tour of the building - An introduction to staff and other volunteers
What to do if you have a complaint - What the aims of the organisation are - How the organisation you are volunteering with fits into the local picture. - What you will be expected to do - What time you are expected to commit - Who to go to for support.
